NUS Referendum in College - Voting Info

Dear Downing,

In light of responses to a poll sent out last week, and in accordance with our constitution, a referendum will be held on the following question:

********************

In the upcoming referendum of CUSU's membership of the NUS, there are two official campaigns: The Yes Campaign are in favour of leaving the NUS, the No Campaign are against leaving the NUS. What should the JCR's official position be regarding these campaigns? Please rank following options in order of preference.

A) Support the Yes Campaign
B) Support the No Campaign
C) Take an officially neutral position

*********************

DETAILS
Voting will be done online via the following link: https://vote.downingjcr.co.uk/jcrrefmay2016/

Voting Commences: 8am, Wednesday 18th May
Voting Closes: 8pm, Friday 20th May

THINGS TO NOTE
In order to vote, you need to be on the electoral register. Please click on the link to check whether you are, and if you are not, email the Internet Officer [email protected] . Two hours before voting commences the system will lock and prevent any modifications to the electoral register so please do check before then.

Regarding quorum in a referendum like this the constitution frames it like this: The winning decision can win by a simple majority, but it is only binding if that majority decision has at least 40 votes. In the event that there is no binding decision, the JCR remains with no official position.

Please contact me with any comments or concerns.

Best,
Tom
