Welfare Easter Bulletin

Hello everyone,

Welcome back, I hope you had a restful holiday. This is (probably) the only email you will receive from welfare this term, so make sure you have a look to see what your Downing welfare team has in store for you this term.

1) Anonymous messaging
Anonymous messaging is finally here! You can message your welfare officers and any other member of the JCR by going to the new website https://www.jcr.dow.cam.ac.uk/committee and clicking "contact anonymously" in the person’s bio you wish to message. Please don’t hesitate to use this service, especially for welfare. As your welfare officers, we wish for all students to be physically and mentally healthy, so message us about any problems or concerns you have and we will answer promptly.

2) Tips for Exam Term - Butterfield
FRESHERS come down to meet a panel of second year Downing students on Tuesday 26th April at 19:00 downstairs in the butterfield. Find out what they thought of exam term, how they managed stress last year, and crucial advice they want you to know, to start your exam term on the right note.

3) Food & Love - Butterfield
As usual Food & Love will run this term every Sunday of an odd week in the Butterfield between 15:00 - 16:30. Take a break from work, and come grab some free food and sexual health supplies.

4) Food & Love *special edition* - “get CHECKED, get a COOKIE"
DHIVerse is coming to Downing for Food & Love on Sunday 8th May, to carry out free chlamydia tests. So come pee in a pot to get a free cookie! DHIVerse is a charity that aims to reduce the spread of HIV and promote good sexual health, for more information about their service go to http://www.dhiverse.org.uk/

5) Games on Paddock
Come battle it out on the paddock on Saturdays at 17:00 for a “friendly” game of rounders before slops.

6) Psychological Wellbeing Workshop (by the Charlie Waller Memorial Trust) - E Staircase Music Room:
Friday 22nd April 1.30-3pm
This exciting and informative talk aims to give students an insight into the relationship between psychological health and performance and the 90 minute session will draw on the latest findings from neuroscience, medicine, cognitive behavioural therapy and ‘positive’ psychology. The presentation also includes evidence-based tools and techniques for building resilience and staying positive under pressure. This should be a great opportunity for learning how to look after yourself and others while here at Downing, and especially under exam stress.
Entry is free of charge and no booking is required so just turn up on the day - but if you'd like to attend, please email Dan Stanyon [email protected] so we can gauge numbers.

7) Drop-ins - JCR office (P staircase)
Come have a chat with one of us in the JCR office (P staircase) about anything troubling you, or anything at all that you wish to discuss.
Isla - Every Monday 17:00 - 18:00
Vishaal - Every Friday 15:00 - 16:00
If these times are inconvenient for you and you wish to speak to one of us, please email us directly with a time suitable for you.

8) Free Sexual Health Supplies
Free condoms, pregnancy tests, lubricant, femidoms and dental dams are all available to you, just email us and we can put some in your pigeon holes or come to Food & Love to pick some up.

9) Welfare Packs
Look out for Welfare packs in your pigeon holes in Week 4.

Have a nice term,
Isla & Vishaa
