COMMS WEEK 3

Dear Downing Undergrads

Welcome to Week 3! I hope you are all enjoying the sun and making use of the tables on the paddock whilst this weather lasts! Not many bulletins this week (a lowly 5)-I have attached a document with details for the 2016 International Conference on Herbal Science, Technology & Medicine (HerbSTeM) right at the bottom of the email, so if that’s your thing make sure to check it out.

This week’s picture, taken from my bedroom window, is of the blossom tree by the library that seems to look more and more spectacular every day!

1. CU Rambling Society trip to Brighton
Join the CU Rambling Society on an end-of-term day trip to walk the South Downs and discover Brighton
As an end-of-term treat, the Rambling Society has planned a trip to the South Downs. We will start from Lewes, a historic town in East Sussex, hiking up to a height of 650m above sea level (something unheard of near Cam) with an excellent view of the sea, which would remain in sight as we approach the seaside town Rottingdean and then to Brighton. Upon completion of the 12-mile walk, ramblers can explore Brighton (and Hove) further before enjoying dinner at a local Italian restaurant where the seafood risotto is excellent. For more information, please look at the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/934820103283550/ or contact Herman Lam (the leader of the walk) at [email protected] Registration is required and membership fee will be waived. We look forward to enjoying a lovely day out with many of you in Brighton in a month’s time!

2. Caius May Ball
Caius May Ball is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic students to work the clear up shifts for their May Ball on Tuesday 14th June. There are some last minute spaces that have recently be made available. These will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis, so get in touch quickly if you are interested!

3. Cambia - the Cambridge Innovation Accelerator Committee Applications
We are incredibly excited to launch Cambia - the Cambridge Innovation Accelerator. From our beginnings as the Cambridge Ecohouse Initiative, Cambia is a student-led organisation that helps social entrepreneurs develop and deploy sustainable solutions for urban communities in the developing world. In order to achieve this, we’re looking to recruit a driven and enthusiastic executive committee for 2016/17.
To apply, please fill out this short form (http://goo.gl/forms/1wGkwReLvq); the deadline for applications is SUNDAY 8th MAY. However, we do strongly advise submitting applications as early as possible. For more information, please contact: [email protected]
